Sara Soderstron, Ph.D.

Senior Principal

Sara Soderstrom has studied and worked with Vicki Medvec for nearly 20 years.  As a senior principal at Medvec & Associates, she has leveraged her multidisciplinary experience in consulting, engineering and management to support clients in navigating strategic decisions and negotiation challenges.

Sara is an associate professor in organizational studies and program in the environment at the University of Michigan (UM). She is Faculty Director of the undergraduate fellows program at the Erb Institute and faculty associate at the Center for Positive Organizations at UM. An experienced facilitator and change management expert, Sara is passionate about helping executives successfully lead change and achieve their goals. She brings professional and academic experience in change management, decision-making, negotiations and group dynamics to her work with clients across a variety of industries, including manufacturing, engineering, consumer goods and the nonprofit sector.

Sara completed her Ph.D. at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Erb Institute at UM. Prior to her graduate work at Kellogg, Sara worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Co. and led a business transformation team at Auto Club Group. She holds MSE degrees in chemical and environmental engineering and a BSE degree in chemical engineering from UM. In her research, Sara aims to contribute an organizational perspective on how society develops solutions to critical global sustainability challenges. She has published in numerous management journals including Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Organization & Environment and Organization Studies. Sara teaches multiple courses at the University of Michigan that focus on the intersection of organizations and sustainability, and has received numerous awards.
