Kaylene McClanahan, Ph.D.

Senior Principal

Kaylene McClanahan has studied and worked with Vicki Medvec for six years, leveraging her expertise in Kaylene McClanahan has studied and worked with Vicki Medvec for six years, leveraging her expertise in organizational psychology to support clients in navigating leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal dynamics. As a Senior Principal at Medvec &Associates, she applies her deep knowledge of human behavior to consulting, coaching, and training for individuals and organizations, while also teaching MBA, PhD, and executive education courses on psychology and organizational behavior.

Kaylene seeks to improve individual and organizational functioning using behavioral science insights accumulated over more than a decade. She is passionate about fostering effective leadership, managing power dynamics in groups, promoting work-life balance, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in workplaces. 

Kaylene completed her Ph.D. in Management &Organizations at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 2020, an M.S. in Marriage, Family, and Human Development from Brigham Young University in 2012, and a B.S. in Family Life (Human Development emphasis) fromBrigham Young University in 2010, graduating summa cum laude as valedictorian of the School of Family Life. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Management and Organizations at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Prior to her independent work, she served as a doctoral student and teaching assistant at Northwestern, where she contributed to courses on organizational behavior and leadership. In her research, Kaylene explores how individuals obtain and maintain power, the perpetuation of hierarchies, ineffective allyship by well-intentioned individuals, and strategies for evading discrimination, with publications in top journals including Proceedings of the National Academy ofSciences, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, The Leadership Quarterly, Current Opinion in Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, Group Processes& Intergroup Relations, Journal of Family and Economic Issues, and Journal of Adolescent Research. She has presented at conferences such as the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, International Society for PoliticalPsychology, Academy of Management, Work and Family Researchers Network, National Council on Family Relations, and American Psychological Association, and received awards and grants including the Women's Research Institute Grant(2012–2013), FHSS Graduate Mentoring Grant (2011–2012), Merlin and Edna Sant Scholarship (2011–2012), Departmental Academic Scholarship (2010–2012), Karl G. Maeser Scholarship (2009–2010), and BYU Academic Scholarships(2006–2009).
